in partnership with The University of York

At the end of April 2022, our appeal ended and we decided to celebrate the handover of the monies to the NHS Charities Together team by staging an event. Several of the poets and artists were also musicians, and so we invited the public to a multimedia event at the newly restored Guildhall in York – a venue that had itself survived more than one plague. Some performers could not attend but recorded a video contribution, but many were able to play or read live. We also held an exhibition of work by local partners – our distribution company YPS; our publisher, Borthwick Press; craft and illustration business Unique4Us;  several artist contributors; and the NHS York and Scarborough Hospital Trust.

Performers included Ralph McTell, Mike Harding, Jessie Summerhayes and Ciderhouse Rebellion, Joe Solo, Jeannie Clarke and Maurice Rutherford, Robin Garside and Steve Linstead, John Law, Ellen Waters, Linda Rose Morgan, Laura Potts, Roseanne Kettle, Rachel Feldberg, David Weir, Heath Common, Paul Thwaites and Amber Hawkins.

Bryan Ledgard provided stunning backdrop projections using art from the book and our own photographs for each performance. The photos included the first Covid memorial, that had been designed by Graham Ibbeson; at the unveiling, Paul Thwaites had read his poem "N.H.S." which Graham illustrated in the book. It was a very moving night in a fantastic venue.
