“The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the strong weft and warp, as well as the rips, in our social fabric. Art gives rich pattern to that fabric and weaves us together – it has a power we need, and that we need to share widely. Find your favourites in this rich collection and take solace or take action or both...” Kate Pickett, Professor of Epidemiology and best-selling co-author of The Spirit Level.
The Covid-19 pandemic in the UK first surfaced at the University of York. For this project the University brought together over 50 poets and more than 30 illustrators from York, Yorkshire and beyond to create a unique and unparalleled volume in aid of the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 appeal.
Inside you'll find 120 accomplished but accessible poems, almost all of which were written specially for this moving volume to capture moods and memories of loss, struggle and renewal, where tears and laughter cohabit. Contributors range from seasoned professionals to young poets and artists publishing for the first time – ranging in age from 16 to 98.
This is a book to enjoy and return to again and again as we remember the past, honour the present and look forward to a brighter future.
